Turlock is home to a number of small businesses serving up snacks that are perfect for helping stay cool during the hot summer days. Luckily for community members, there’s a little bit of variety at each shop for everyone’s taste buds.

Oak Barrel Ice and Creamery has been in business at 197 S. Golden State Blvd. since 2015 Owned by former teacher Greg Raynes, Oak Barrell has been a staple for traditional ice cream delights, serving up 23 different flavors of regular ice cream and four kinds of sorbets. One of their most popular menu items has been the classic Root Beer float. Since its opening, items such as ice cream sandwiches have also hit the menu.

Oak Barrel is open Tuesday to Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

House of Random at 80 S First St. has gained popularity for its unique liquid-nitrogen ice cream. The shop offers customers different flavors each month and can even turn a sundae into a milkshake. Not only that, but customers can buy one get one 50% off every Thursday.

House of Random is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Lulus Ice Cream Parlor and Treatery at 2054 E Canal Drive is shop that serves up a lot more than just ice cream. Along with classic scoops, Lulu’s offers sundaes, shakes, malts and floats. But there is still more to the treats than the typical parlor. For those with big cravings, customers can grab themselves burgers, sandwiches, fries and salads.

Lulu’s is open Sunday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.

For those who like the ice more than cream, they too have options in Turlock with Heaven Snow Shaved Ice. Heaven Snow is predominantly know in Ceres, but with a recently opened location in Turlock at 811 W Hawkeye Ave., they are already gaining popularity amongst community members. They offer over 50 flavors of shaved ice, fruit smoothies, frozen slushies and blended iced coffees.

On the topic of fruit, Paleteria y Nieveria La Jungla Michoacana is serving up cups of freshly diced fruit, a traditional Mexican snack. They also offer a variety of Mexican paletas. They are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Crazy Mangonada at 537 N Golden State Blvd is another Mexican staple in Turlock serving up fresh fruit cups… but there is a twist to some of their most popular menu items. The term “crazy” is in the store name for a reason as they are known for their experimentation with other Mexican ingredients. They also offer traditional ice creams, paletas and juices.

The Crazy Mangonada is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
