A 26-year-old Turlock man was arrested early Thursday after he led Ceres Police on a high-speed chase into the country on a stolen motorcycle.

The chase began at 3:50 a.m., when Sgt. Vince Hooper was northbound on Mitchell near Garrison when he spotted a rider on a motorcycle zipping quickly down southbound Mitchell Road. Hooper made a U-turn and followed as the rider, Zachariah Stonebarger, 26, of Turlock, accelerated off.

The pursuit entered southbound Highway 99 as the motorcycle speed increased to over 100 mph. Hooper was informed the motorcycle was stolen in Turlock as he continued the pursuit, which ended in the Turlock countryside where Stonebarger lost control and crashed near an irrigation canal off Taylor Road.

Stonebarger was arrested and booked into the jail for evading, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of brass knuckles.
