Teachers Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Hauppauge, is participating in its fourth Teacher Appreciation Week through its annual contest, donating a total of $15,000 in grants to educators across the nation.

Nominations for the contest close on March 19. Winners will be announced during Teachers Appreciation Week, which this year is May 6-10.

With more than more $9.7 billion in assets, the credit union has more than 460,000 members across all 50 states.

In this year’s contest, prizes will be awarded in three categories: grades pre-K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. A total of nine grants will be awarded, with three winners per category, and prizes ranging between $1,000 and $2,500.

Anyone 18 years of age or older can nominate a teacher who is currently teaching in any public or private school district in the United States. There is no limit to the number of times an educator can be nominated, and multiple entries are encouraged. People do not need to be a member of the credit union to nominate or be nominated.

Following the March 19  nomination deadline, a Teachers Federal Credit Union panel will evaluate the nominees and select 18 finalists, six from each of the three teaching categories.

Public voting for the finalists will take place on teachersfcu.org beginning April 22.
