Body20 has opened its first Long Island studio, at 275 Route 25A in Miller Place. The franchise concept offers a 20-minute, technology-based workout.

With this workout, clients don an FDA-approved electro-muscle stimulation (EMS) suit that is designed to give the body during the workout more than 150 times more muscle contractions than a conventional workout, according to a news release.

“Having always prioritized fitness, BODY20 has become an essential piece in my routine,” Jim Carlson, the owner-operator in Miller Place, said in the news release.

Carlson was initially skeptical about the concept, but over time he became a “fervent believer” in its abilities to provide transformative results – including increased muscle tone, weight loss and core strength – for participants, according to the news release.

Having sold an air-conditioning company that he had owned for more than 24 years, Carlson ultimately decided to become a BODY20 franchisee.

“The EMS workout goes beyond traditional routines, providing a unique and efficient approach to achieving fitness goals,” Carlson said. “I’m eager to introduce this innovative approach to health and wellness to Miller Place.”

At an initial private session, clients are measured for a complimentary “body composition assessment,” discuss goals, and are fitted for a suit. A certified coach then guides them through the 20-minute, customized one-on-one training session.

In most markets, buying a Body20 franchise requires at least $150,000 in liquid assets, and a minimum net worth of $550,000. Body20 charges a franchise fee of $65,000.

The franchisor, located in Miami, is said to have more than 300 franchisees, according to published reports. Currently, there are locations in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia.

This is the second studio in New York, with the first one already located in Rochester.
