A group of seaside cottages in Ogunquit, Maine will welcome guests this spring after a $10 million renovation.

The Dunes on the Waterfront, comprising 24 cottages on 12 acres of oceanfront lawns overlooking Ogunquit Beach, will open May 24 under new management. There will be 23 cottages available this season, with the final cottage slated for next.

Hotelier and real estate developer Tim Harrington of Atlantic Hospitality acquired the property in 2023 and spent the off season renovating the interior, exterior, lobby, décor, grounds, and pool.

The Dunes, which was originally purchased in 1935 as farmland, has been welcoming guests for more than 85 years. It was most recently managed by Aaron and Cindy Perkins, whose family operated the resort for three generations.

“From its beautiful location to its historic bones, The Dunes is truly my dream property,” said Harrington in a statement. “I’ve spent the better part of my career striving to create a retreat like this one, so I’m greatly honored that Aaron and Cindy have trusted my team with this beloved property. We are committed to serving the local community and travelers alike with both excellence and enthusiasm, just as the Perkins family has done for decades.”

The whitewashed cottages with green shutters, nestled among the sandy dunes, offer panoramic ocean views and one to three bedrooms, gas-burning fireplaces, wet bars, Cuddledown bedding, smart TVs, screened-in porches, and more.

The cottages have names like “Driftwood,” “Sea Breeze,” and “High Tide.”

“Coastal hues from sandy beiges to soothing blues to lush greens, compliment the natural light streaming through the large windows and sliders,” wrote the team on the resort’s website.

Guests can swim in a heated swimming pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, ride beach cruiser bikes, play classic lawn games, gather around fire pits, and take waterfront yoga classes. The property also has a dock for fishing and boating. Visitors have access to kayaks, paddleboards, and row boats.

“We don’t simply provide accommodations; we create an immersive environment where you can truly savor the essence of your surroundings,” according to the website.

Travelers can also relax on one of America’s top beaches, as Ogunquit Beach was recently named among the 25 best beaches in the U.S. by Tripadvisor users.

For guests seeking restaurants, shopping, and the arts, charming and walkable downtown Ogunquit is just a half-mile walk from the resort. Or guests can get there by local trolley.

Rates start at $1,525 per night for the 2024 season.

As part of a grand reopening package, guests can currently get 25% off the best rate for stays between May 24 and June 21 along with a VIP amenity at check-in.

Atlantic Hospitality also owns the following Maine properties: The Claremont Hotel, The Lincoln Hotel, The Wanderer Cottages, Salt Cottages, Asticou Inn, and Sandy Pines Resort Campground.
