Man arrested in connection with fatal shooting on Bertha Court

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal Thursday night shooting in a neighborhood on the west side of Indianapolis, according to police.

The shooting occurred just before 11:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Bertha Court, just east of South Lynhurst Drive and south of Rockville Road.

Police found 53-year-old Charles Ray Cole with a gunshot wound in the residential area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives arrived to investigate. Police said they detained Leon Brewer after the shooting and took him to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's homicide office for questioning.

Officials on Friday announced Brewer's arrest. Final charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.

The fatal shooting is the 16th homicide in Indianapolis so far this year and came hours after separate shootings earlier in the day that left one woman dead and another man critically injured.
