This Father’s Day, Turlock dads are reflecting on the lessons they learned from their own fathers over the course of their lives. As fathers themselves, they are also sharing pieces of advice they’d now like to pass down to their children.

Freddy Ceballos’ father encouraged him to do everything to his best ability, and if not, don't do it all. He hopes to inspire his three children to be forward thinkers and have optimistic mindsets.

“Try to make the best of today because yesterday is already gone,” Ceballos said. “Today is a fresh start. You cannot look back on yesterday. You cannot look back on the failures of the past.”

James Roque explained that his father was a man of few words, but it did not mean that there weren’t valuable things to take away and apply to his life.

“His advice to me was not so much verbal, but more so by example to me and my siblings,” Roque said. “He showed us through hard work and persistence anything is possible. He always provided us with a good life, not always giving us what we wanted, but made sure we always had what we needed.”

As a father of five, he would like to teach his children similar things.

“I want to be an example of a strong, loving father and husband,” he said. “I pray their good character carries them through times of hardship and may they always be strong enough to get up when life knocks them down.”

Jon Eatough shared some lighthearted advice from his father.

“Never get an adjustable-rate mortgage. Not exciting advice, but he was right,” Eatough said.

He is also a father of five and advises his children to get as much of an education as they can and to do so as early as possible.
