Lets see, Nintendo made the first d-pad on the nes, they made the first analog stick for consoles on the N64, Nintendo made the first shoulder buttons and 4-face button design with the SNES, Sony came up with dual-stick design witch made 3D game design evolve to a new level. Nintendo made the first wireless controller with the wavebird for GameCube. Im sure I could go on.
Soooo...If anything, Xbox copied everything that came before it with their controller with little in terms of innovation. The only thing they did themselves were the shape and ergonomics, witch are great.
