The main route into Weston-super-Mare is to partially close overnight next week for three nights for maintenance work to be carried out. The central lanes of the A370 Somerset Avenue and the associated roundabouts will close temporarily on the evenings of June 27,28 and 29 between 7am and 2am.

The work will take place after the evening rush hour to minimise inconvenience to road users. The work will include street lighting maintenance, minor vegetation clearance and mechanical sweeping of the drainage channels.

There will be no full road closures to avoid travel disruption. The stretches of road affected are:

  • Monday, June 27: from Hutton Moor roundabout to the Airport roundabout

  • Tuesday, June 28: from the Airport roundabout to West Wick roundabout

  • Wednesday, June 29: from West Wick Roundabout towards junction 21, but not including the motorway roundabout.

North Somerset Council executive member for transport and highways Councillor Steve Hogg said: "This is a busy stretch of road, so work is being completed outside peak travel times to avoid disruption to road users. The temporary lane closures will enable our contractors to work safely and their work will ensure a good standard of maintenance benefitting road users."

The work is being carried out by North Somerset Council's contractors Centregreat and Glendale.
