Organizations that have called for tighter gun laws in states and nationwide on Wednesday endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's campaign for a full term weeks after she signed new measures into law meant to strengthen firearms measures in New York.

Hochul, along with Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado and state Attorney General Letitia James, was endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. The endorsements follow the backing from all three Democrats receiving the candidate distinction destination from Moms Demand Action Gun Sense.

“Governor Hochul, Lieutenant Governor Delgado, and Attorney General James are all gun sense champions who walk the walk, whether that means raising their voice to support strong gun safety bills, raising their pen to sign those bills into law, or raising arguments in court to defend those laws against gun lobby attacks,” said John Feinblatt, the president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “New Yorkers are safer because of their courageous leadership, and they have Everytown’s full support as they run for another term.”

Hochul this month signed a package of gun law changes that include the banning of body vests with exceptions for law enforcement and first responders, requiring people have a license in order to possess a semiautomatic rifle and that those people be at least 21 years old and an expansion of the state's red flag in order to keep guns away from people considered to be too dangerous.

The measures were pushed for in the wake of mass shootings at a supermarket in Buffalo and an elementary school in Texas.

Hochul is facing a primary next Tuesday against Rep. Tom Suozzi and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams as she runs for a full, four-year term. Suozzi has criticized Hochul's prior support from the National Rifle Association while she was representing a conservative-leaning House district in western New York a decade ago.

Hochul has said she changed her views on guns after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
