An award-winning Boston chef just opened an Italian restaurant at Logan Airport.
Chef Karen Akunowicz is now dishing out traditional Italian cuisine with a modern twist at Fox & Flight in Terminal A.
The new Logan eatery, a partnership between the James Beard award winning Akunowicz and travel retailer and restaurant operator Paradies Lagardère, was inspired by the chef’s South Boston restaurant, Fox & the Knife. Fox & the Knife, Akunowicz’s first solo restaurant, was influenced by the time she spent in Modena, Italy as a pasta maker and chef.
The 2,965-square-foot airport restaurant seats up to 95 guests and features whimsical artwork and an exhibition kitchen that fosters “a creative, cozy, and inspired neighborhood-like dining experience,” according to the team.
Travelers can fuel up on breakfast dishes such as eggs and polenta and pancakes made with lemon curd and blueberries. For lunch and dinner, guests can order rigatoni Bolognese, pork Milanese, bucatini cacio pepe, and more.
Fox & Flight also features a bar, and the “Top Chef” star raved about the restaurant’s cocktails — especially the Campari margarita — in an Instagram post announcing the opening.
“One of the reasons that I love the opportunity to open a restaurant at Boston Logan Airport is that I travel so much and I spend so much time in airports that I really understand the value of having a great glass of wine, a good meal, a great conversation with a great bartender,” said Chef Karen Akunowicz, in a statement. “That hospitality can make you feel at home when you are far away from home. In addition, we are able to reach and touch so many people that otherwise would not get the chance to eat our food.”
Before flying off, customers can buy a signed cookbook at the restaurant. In the fall of 2023, Akunowicz released “Crave: Bold Recipes That Make You Want Seconds” and is currently working on her second cookbook.
“We are consistently working to enhance the passenger experience, and with the addition of Fox & Flight, we are excited to introduce passengers to a new dining option with local ties,” said Ed Freni, interim CEO and aviation director at Massport, in a statement. “Thousands of visitors travel to New England every day to enjoy everything the region has to offer, and our concessions play a significant role in each passenger’s journey.”
