■ PM vows active dialogue with medical community amid doctors' strike
SEOUL -- Prime Minister Han Duck-soo pledged active dialogue with the medical community Tuesday to find a negotiated settlement to the protracted walkout by trainee doctors protesting the government's decision to significantly increase medical school admissions.
Han made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of the medical community, including presidents of major universities and leading teaching hospitals across the country, held at Seoul National University Hospital in Seoul.

■ S. Korea, Japan to cooperate in developing satellite navigation system
SEOUL -- South Korea and Japan will collaborate on the development and operation of regional satellite navigation systems in East Asia, Seoul's science ministry said Tuesday.
The two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC), designed for practical cooperation in developing and operating their respective satellite systems in the region, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.

SEOUL -- South Korea is making diplomatic efforts to extend the mandate of a U.N. expert panel on the monitoring of the implementation of sanctions on North Korea, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday, amid reports of prospects of a possible veto by Russia.
The 15-member U.N. Security Council (UNSC) was to vote last Friday on a resolution calling for continuing the Panel of Experts on North Korea sanctions for another year until April 30, 2025, but the vote was postponed for further consultations, according to a Reuters report.

■ Yoon vows to expand bio industry production size to 200 tln won by 2035
SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk Yeol announced an ambitious goal Tuesday to boost the size of the country's bio industry production to 200 trillion won (US$149 billion) by 2035 through an increase in the government budget allocation for research and development (R&D).
Yoon outlined the objective during a government-public debate, part of a series of sessions addressing people's livelihood issues, in the central city of Cheongju in North Chungcheong Province.
