Bill Belichick is reportedly set to write his own book, though with characteristic secrecy, its topic remains unknown.

According to Andrew Marchand, a senior media columnist for The Athletic, Belichick is preparing to write a book per “officials briefed on his plans.”

Exactly what Belichick is planning to write about isn’t known. Neither Belichick’s representatives, nor the potential publisher (Simon & Schuster’s Avid Reader Press) have offered any specifics about the project.

Belichick, 71, parted ways with the Patriots in January following a disappointing 4-13 record in the 2023 season. He led New England for 24 years, winning six Super Bowls (having won two others as a defensive coordinator with the Giants).

His coaching career spans more than half a century, and his knowledge for the game remains respected across the NFL landscape. Should he choose to write a book, it could cover not only his own story, but—as Belichick showcased with his thoughtful presence on NFL Films’ “100 Greatest” project—many historical topics around football.

It wouldn’t be the first football book written by a Belichick. Bill’s father, Steve Belichick, was the author of an influential book, “Football Scouting Methods,” originally published in 1962.

Recently, Belichick’s characterization in the Apple TV+ documentary series, “The Dynasty,” was criticized for unfairly portraying him as a villainous character with the Patriots. So the stage could be set for the former Patriots’ coach to tell his own side of the story. Then again, the book topic could be something more straightforward. Belichick, as he confidently displayed for decades, isn’t usually preoccupied with public perception.
