The deadline to file paperwork by any Ukiah residents interested in running for one of the three Ukiah City Council seats up for election in November is 5 p.m. this Friday.

According to the city’s website, so far five people have “pulled the paperwork” needed to become an official candidate: the three incumbents, Jim O. Brown, Juan V. Orozco and Mari Rodin, and two challengers, Thao Phi and Susan Sher.

As of Wednesday, Brown and Rodin had completed filing their paperwork, while Orozco and Sher had filed “partial paperwork.” No other residents had pulled the paperwork required to run.

The candidates will be vying for one of three, four-year terms that run from December of 2022 until December of 2026. To qualify, interested parties must be at least “18 years of age, a Citizen of the United States, and a registered voter residing within the city limits of Ukiah.”

Nomination papers and guides are available at City Hall, 300 Seminary Ave., by scheduling an appointment with the City Clerk’s office at 707-463-6217, or by email at cityclerk@cityofukiah.com.

The filing period closes on Aug. 12, 2022, at 5 p.m.
