Educators at the Aquarium of the Pacific, including president and CEO Dr. Peter Kareiva, will teach a class this fall semester at Orange Coast College.
Ocean Conservation and Community Science will take place at the aquarium on Tuesday and Thursday evening, but will be certified for college credit through Orange Coast College. Enrollment is open to both high school and college students.
“I am hoping this is the beginning of an expanding partnership with local colleges and universities, whereby we collaborate to provide hands-on engaged learning and recruit students to our course who might otherwise never consider science careers,” Kareiva said in a release.
Students completing the course will receive three college credits in biological sciences, and a transcript from Orange Coast. The course focuses on ocean conservation and the roles aquariums can play. There will be optional field trips on the weekends.
Scholarships are available for high school students to cover enrollment fees and parking. Registration and more information is available at www.aquariumofpacific.org.
