In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, James is working at the firehouse. He was Chief Boden’s stepson. Or he was when Boden was married to his mom. The two have been divorced for a while and so Boden offered James a second job because he really loves him. He practically raised that boy for years.

The love doesn’t go away. He has James working for him because James needed the money. He was driving all hours for rideshare.

The company that he works for limits him to twelve hours a day. He therefore needed a second job because he wants to get out of Boden’s guest bedroom. He wants his own place. He wants to be independent. And he could sleep when he’s on better financial ground.

James wasn’t the only new face at Firehouse 51. There was a new paramedic. She was young and her training had to be split up between separate places because she slept with her very married instructor. The affair got out. It led to the married guy getting in trouble.

It also led to her getting in trouble when the man’s wife found out about the affair. Not that it fazed the new girl. She was still laughing about the whole thing and had even asked if Violet had ever slept with a married man. They soon got called out to a massive fire that stopped Violet from judging her.

The fire was at a music studio. There was the studio manager that got trapped in there. He had to be rescued and the paramedics had to take him to the hospital. The rest of the building was a write off. Severide thought the fire was suspicious. He later walked the scene with the Arson investigator.

They found several starting points. This indicated that someone deliberating torched that place. They also found the remains of a victim. It turns out the studio manager wasn’t in there alone. The body was that of Wyatt Sullivan. He was the studio manager. The other guy was Dale Smith.

The firefighters didn’t know who Dale Smith was. He proved to be a client. He wasn’t even supposed to be there and he had just fallen asleep after a writing session. The firefighter had mistaken him for Wyatt. Dale was in too much pain to correct them.

Only the guy that owns the studio was at the hospital. He worked with Wyatt. They were friends. Mr. Nicholson said they have been having trouble with a client lately. The client was Antoine Kennedy. He was a rapper. Nicholson thought he was more a drug dealer at this stage and Wyatt had to kick him out after his last session.

Antoine brought drugs to their studio. He was a great suspect. The police were too busy to follow this lead up. Severide decided to help things along. He looked into Antoine. He found out where he loves to hang out. He also saw the young man posing with guns on social media.

Severide thinks one of them might have been used to kill Wyatt. He went to go talk to Antoine and Antoine ran when he saw him. He suspected that the fire was going to be blamed on him. And so he ran until police caught up to him.

The detectives brought him in for questioning. Antoine said he wasn’t thrown out for drugs. He said he paid up for his session and then Wyatt comes in saying someone with a higher profile agreed to pay three times the rate for the same session.

He kicked out Antoine because he thought to make more money. The studio was known for doing shady stuff like that. They have plenty of enemies. The cops weren’t looking at anyone else because they were super focused on Antoine and so Severide agreed to follow up the other leads.

Violet in the meantime got to know the new girl. Sure, the woman liked Carver. She was flirting with him and Violet couldn’t tell her to stop because what she had with Carver was supposed to be a secret. The two of them got called to a house. They were told a child was in distress.

It turns out the child was playing with another child and he got shot by that second child. The kid still had the gun when the paramedics arrived. He didn’t want to give it up because he didn’t want to go back to juvenile detention. And so the new girl saved the day.

She got the kid with the gun to keep his eyes on her. She was able to talk him into letting go of the gun. She emptied the clip and disarmed it while Violet checked the injured child’s vitals. They saved a child’s life together. The new girl thought Violet was old school.

She thought the whole firehouse was on the old side, but she was good at her job and that’s why Violet didn’t ask for a replacement. Severide also figured out who killed Wyatt. He checked the studio and he noticed that the studio’s equipment was all moved out of the studio before the fire.

Wyatt had accidentally killed himself. He moved out all the equipment. He planned on selling it and he torched the studio to cover up the fact he was robbing his best friend since grade school. Wyatt just didn’t make it out in time. He was in debt from the pandemic.

His wife’s nail salon was going under. He used acetone from her nail salon to torch the place. He then got trapped inside when the fire got out of hand. Now his wife will be facing charges for her involvement in his scheme. And it didn’t just end there.

Wyatt was deliberating charging people more to pay himself. He was cutting out his friend entirely. The same friend that rushed down when he heard Wyatt was in trouble and openly wept when he learned his friend was dead. Wyatt was a horrible person.

The world was better off without him. But Mouch was also dealing with an issue. He was helping a lady through Brett’s special program. The lady became fixated on him. She kept stopping by the firehouse. She slept in his bunk when they got called to a scene. She also showed up at his house to kill his wife.

Trudy was a smart woman. She figured it out. She arrested the woman for attempted murder and that’s not the first time the woman has been charged with that. She tried to kill another rival only she was caught and sent to a psychiatric facility. She won’t get so lucky this time.

James also revealed why he needed money. He was left in charge of his mother’s house. He thought to rent it out to keep on top of the mortgage and unfortunately the renters never paid him in three months. He had to throw them out, but they had wrecked the place and so Boden helped him clean up.

THE END!
