According to a study released in The Lancet Global Health on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, Fluvoxamine, a cheap antidepressant, reduced the need for hospitalization among high-risk adults with COVID-19.

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

There were 119,918 new coronavirus cases recorded over the last two weeks among Florida residents, bringing the cumulative total to 6,909,416. With 994 more fatalities on record, 78,559 Florida residents have died.

The death total over the last two weeks reflects an increase from the 903 reported in the two weeks prior, but deaths can take several days or weeks to be reported. Many newly reported deaths are of people who died before the last two weeks.

The number of cases over the last two weeks decreased compared to the 149,452 reported in the two weeks prior. Positivity decreased from 20.7% to 18.4%. That’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive.

Of note, the state reports deal only with Florida resident cases and exclude nonresident cases, which are no longer available.

Across the state, 4,862 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 from Aug. 3 to 9, according to the latest White House report. In comparison, 5,203 were hospitalized two weeks ago. Four weeks ago, it was 5,015.

Statewide, 15,973,507 residents, or 72% of people age 6 months and up, have received at least one vaccination shot, including 7,816,734 who have completed their shot regimens but not received an additional dose through Aug. 12. Meanwhile, 30,415 received an additional dose this week, bringing the total to 5,954,009.
