CHICO — The Chico Community Band, which consists of musicians from across the north state, presents a spring concert this weekend.

The concert Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Chico Masonic Family Lodge features music from iconic films and fantasy worlds — including “Captain America,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “James Bond” and more — according to a press release. The earliest title was written in 1872.

Sponsored by the Chico Masonic Family Lodge and the Chico Area Recreation and Park District, the concert is free, but donations are accepted.

The band began as the Chico Brass Band started by a downtown businessman, John Gottlieb, in 1884. The band evolved into the Chico Community Band around 1940, according to the press release. It was once a part of CARD, and the band performs for CARD events and a variety of community events.

There are between 45 and 50 members. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at California Park Pavilion. There are no auditions for the band, and it is open to musicians of all ages and abilities.
