Defending Summit League baseball champ Oral Roberts snaps Northern Colorado’s win streak

Series continues Saturday and Sunday at Jackson Field

Oral Roberts baseball, the defending Summit League champion and College World Series qualifier in 2023, snapped Northern Colorado’s win streak with a 16-3 victory in eight innings at Jackson Field in Greeley.

Eight Golden Eagles players had at least one hit, Oral Roberts pounded out 17 hits as a team and starting pitcher Jakob Hall struck out eight while allowing four hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.

ORU (3-7 Summit League, 11-19 overall) with the victory extended its winning streak against UNC to seven games dating to 2022.

The teams return to Jackson Field with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

The Golden Eagles led 4-1 after three innings and padded their lead with 12 runs in the final four innings.

UNC, 5-5 Summit League and 6-23 overall, came into the game having won six of its last seven games and five in a row. Zain Zinicola, Brandon Sanchez, Kai Wagner and Dalton Miller each had a hit for UNC.

Sanchez hit a solo home run in the third, and Miller hit an RBI triple in the seventh. Sam Pease had UNC’s other RBI on a fielder’s choice in the seventh scoring Miller.

Starting pitcher Dylan Smith (1-6) took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with a strikeout and two walks.
