Colorado People & Places presentation: 6 p.m. Monday, Erie Community Library, 400 Powers St., Erie. Bob Rummer will tell the story of Erie’s railroad history, with railroad barons and miner’s strikes, floods and freight, tourists and streamliners. The tracks are overgrown, and the street crossings are paved over, but Erie’s rails were once the pride of the state. By accessing the northern Colorado coalfield, the Denver & Boulder Valley RR laid the foundation for dramatic growth in Denver and the development of Erie. When the D&BVRR steamed into Erie on Jan. 18, 1871, it was the first branch line constructed in the state. Although the trains have been gone for 20 years, its legacy can still be seen in the town. Second Mondays Book Group: 6:30 p.m. Monday, Library, 409 Fourth Ave., Longmont. The group will meet to discuss “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue,” by Victoria Schwab. longmontcolorado.gov.
