Walt Disney World has shared “making of” information about Journey of Water, the “Moana”-inspired attraction currently under construction at Epcot.

Visitors to the theme park almost literally cannot miss the project as its construction walls surround a large portion of the property just beyond the iconic Spaceship Earth building. Monorail riders can see down into the site when their train from Magic Kingdom circles the Epcot area that previously was home to the Fountain of Nations.

A post on the official Disney Parks Blog shows off the (faux) rock work going into Journey of Water, which is described as an “immersive exploration trail.”

“Designed for all ages, Journey of Water will allow guests to explore and engage with water as it travels from our skies to our oceans and back again,” the post reads.

Imagineer Zach Riddley’s Instagram account expounded on the project, too.

“The range of textures are inspired by real world formations — all the way down to the tiniest details and variation that, when finished, should be impossible to distinguish from the real thing,” he writes.

Characters and elements from the 2016 film are incorporated into the rockwork. The trademark spiral will be near the attraction’s entrance, the blog post notes.

Neither the item nor Riddley mention an opening time frame for Journey of Water, which was announced during D23 Expo in August 2019.
