Elyria Youth Track Club is opening registration ahead of the group’s first official outdoor practice scheduled for May 6.

Aric Bowens, CEO of the Elyria Youth Sports Club, said an April 12 high school track meet at Ely Stadium, 1915 Middle Ave., will be a chance for current club members and potential new members to connect.

“We’re trying to gather up all our youth track athletes because there’s a big high school track meet,” Bowens said. “We’ll be at the stadium.”

The Youth Sports Club welcomes children of ages 4-14.

Registration per child is $75, Bowens said.

Also, each additional child in the family is $25 each, he said.

“We do have scholarships and payment plans, so no child will be left behind,” Bowens said.

Some newer athletes will compete against each other locally, but more advanced will compete at the AAU level and have the chance to travel within the United States to compete nationally, he said.

“We’re definitely excited and going outside of our area, we’ll have athletes competing in Northeast Ohio and (potentially) nationally if those children do qualify for nationals,” Bowens said.

The Youth Sports Club is open to runners, but also those who do field events.

“We’re open to everybody,” Bowens said. “We welcome sprinters, hurdlers, long jumpers and throwers.”

Bowens also expressed excitement with the leadership for Youth Track Club going into this new season.

He said Jo Ann Madison is the president of the Youth Track Club and her husband, Robert Madison, is the head track coach.

The practices will take place from 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, through July 29.
