Has Revenge of the Mummy reopened at Universal Studios? The answer is yes, sorta. But also, no, not really.
The indoor roller coaster has been closed since early January. Universal Orlando said the temporary closure was for scheduled maintenance and the attraction would reopen in “late summer.”
The ride is now in “technical rehearsal,” Universal says, with an official reopening coming later this summer. Theme park devotees sometimes call this a “soft opening.”
After a few days of employee previews this month, regular theme-park guests were allowed to board the Mummy ride again Tuesday.

“The attraction may open on a limited, unscheduled basis and some elements of the experience may not be available,” Universal says. A sign outside the attraction repeats those sentiments.
The coaster is typically one of the open attractions during Halloween Horror Nights, which kicks off Friday. The event’s website does not yet list which will be available this year.
Returning riders this week may not notice much in the way of change inside. The coaster’s darkened path remains, working its way through fiery effects, Egyptian theming, scary scarabs, deep drops, Imhotep’s warning that “death is only the beginning” and an appearance by early 21st Century Brendan Fraser and his coffee demands.
Revenge of the Mummy debuted in 2004 in the building that formerly housed the Kongfrontation ride.
