A woman died Saturday after falling while climbing near the summit of Capitol Peak in Colorado, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office said.

The hiker, a Denver resident, was not publicly identified.

The woman’s body was recovered after a group of climbers saw a solo climber fall after a rock she was holding gave away around 8 a.m. on Saturday. The woman fell about 900 feet before she was recovered.

Capitol Peak is located in the Rocky Mountains, about 14 miles west of Aspen. Its top elevation is roughly 14,130 feet.

Authorities said only experiencing climbers should attempt to scale the mountain.

A total of five climbers died on the mountain over a span of several weeks in 2017. Last year, officials decided to leave a deceased climber’s body on the mountain after a rescue worker was seriously injured during recovery efforts.
