MUNCIE, Ind. — Volleyball season is in full swing.

The East Central Indiana volleyball landscape is beginning to take shape, with most schools being tested enough to see where they stand at this point in the season. There were many positive for local squads this past week, as well as strong individual performances, and this next week features some dates to circle on your calendar.

Here's a Week 3 recap of the 2022 ECI volleyball season:

  • Wes-Del repeats as Kay Saunders Classic champions: The Warriors won the Kay Saunders Classic tournament for the second year in a row, this time in dominant fashion with sweeps against every opponent, (Hagerstown, Blackford, Mississinewa and Western). In total, Ella Mauck led the offense with 21 kills, setters Jennah Love and Avery Towsend combined for 70 assists, Kamryn Love had 27 digs and Rachel McGlothin notched 10 aces. 
  • Indiana Prep Volleyball latest Z-ratings: In the second IndianaPrepVolleyball.com Z-ratings of the 2022 season, Wapahani remained ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, and Yorktown moved up two spots to No. 3 in 4A.
  • Yorktown hosts 4A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday: In perhaps their biggest match of the season so far, the Tigers host 4A top-ranked Hamilton Southeastern (8-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Royals won this matchup 3-2 last year, and this season's meeting should be another exciting one as both squads look to prove themselves among the state's best competition. For every red shirt worn by a fan to the match, $1 will be donated to Riley Hospital for Children.
  • Cowan hosts "Block Out Cancer" night against Wes-Del: The Blackhawks' match against the Warriors on Wednesday, Sept. 7, will be the program's annual "Block out Cancer" night, during which both teams will wear pink, those affected by cancer will be recognized and donations will be taken to support the Little Red Door Cancer Agency in Muncie.

Notable individual performances

  • Macie Bowden, Wapahani: In her team's sweep against Jay County on Sept. 1, the senior tallied 32 assists and three kills.
  • Caitlyn Campbell, Winchester: The Golden Falcons senior tied her career-high in kills with 20, along with one ace, three blocks, eight digs, one assist and four receptions in her team's 3-0 victory over Elwood on Aug. 29.
  • Chloe Cook, Wapahani: In the Raiders' sweep of Jay County on Thursday, the senior tallied a season-high 16 kills to go along with three digs and one assist.
  • Camryn Deneve, New Castle: In the Trojans' sweep at Connersville on Aug. 30, the senior had a strong all-around game with a career-high 11 kills, season-high 17 digs, three aces, three blocks and four receptions.

'Lit a fire':Wapahani volleyball driven by heartbreaking 2021 sectional final loss

  • Maddie Dungan, Muncie Burris: In just a two-set victory over Greenfield-Central on Thursday, the Owls senior had a strong all-around effort with eight kills, 10 digs, five assists and three aces.
  • Emilee Finley, Daleville: Although her team lost 3-2 to Frankton on Thursday, the Broncos senior had 37 assists, her second-best mark of the year, in addition to five kills, six aces and eight digs.
  • Brenna Haines, Jay County: In her team's 3-1 loss at Fort Recovery on Aug. 30, the Patriots junior tallied 32 receptions, 23 digs, one kill and three aces.
  • Emilee Hill, Yorktown: In her team's 3-0 sweep over Pendleton Heights on Sept. 1, Hill notched another solid all-around performance, this time with eight kills, 16 digs, 14 assists, one block and one reception.
  • Madi Howell, Cowan: In her team's 3-1 loss at Monroe Central on Thursday, the Blackhawks senior notched career-highs in kills (14) and receptions (18) in addition to two aces, two blocks and two digs.
  • Trishell Johnson, Daleville: The Broncos sophomore continues to show improvement as the season progresses, most recently tallying a career-high 18 kills, along with two blocks, two digs and five receptions, in her team's 3-2 loss to Frankton on Sept. 1.
  • Danica Keppler, Cowan: In her team's 3-1 loss at Monroe Central on Thursday, the Blackhawks sophomore tallied a career-high 29 assists, as well as two kills, one ace, seven digs and one reception.
  • Olivia Morris, Delta: Continuing to expand her all-around game this season, the Eagles junior secured a new career-high in kills (14) and tied her best career mark in blocks (eight) to go along with one ace and three digs in her team's 3-2 win at Mt. Vernon on Sept. 1.
  • Savanna Morris, Blackford: In the Bruins' 2-1 loss to Mississinewa in the Kay Saunders Classic on Saturday, Morris notched a season-high 10 blocks, as well as two kills, two blocks and six receptions.
  • Addie Phillippe, Delta: The Eagles sophomore was key in her team's 3-2 win at Mt. Vernon on Thursday, notching a season-high in assists with 44, one shy of her career best mark, while also contributing one kill, one ace, two blocks and eight digs.
  • Emily Reno, Delta: The Eagles junior was one of the major reasons for her team's 3-2 victory over Mt. Vernon on Thursday, notching a season-high 20 kills, as well as three blocks and seven digs.
  • Charlotte Vinson, Yorktown: In the Tigers' sweep at Wapahani on Aug. 30, the sophomore OH tied her season-high in kills with 17, also notching two digs and one block.
