See how Berks graduates are doing in college athletics

Misericordia junior right-hander Connor Maryniak, a Gov. Mifflin graduate, was named the Middle Athletic  Conference Freedom Division pitcher of the week.

Maryniak was 2-0 with 0.74 era and 15 strikeouts last week. He struck out six and allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings in a 9-3 win over Lebanon Valley. He also had nine strikeouts in seven shutout innings of a 7-4 win over FDU-Florham.

Kutztown University track and field

Senior Anthony DeFusco, a Daniel Boone graduate, qualified for the PSAC Track and Championships in the triple jump and long jump at the Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend at Bucknell.

In the long jump, DeFusco jumped 22-7¼ for eighth place and in the triple jump hit 45-11¾ for 14th place.

T.J. White, a junior and graduate of Muhlenberg, cleared 6-4 in the high jump at the Bison Classic to qualify for PSAC championships. He tied for seventh place in the meet.

For the Kutztown women, Gov. Mifflin graduate Delaney Beard, a senior, placed 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 16-11¼.

The PSAC championships are May 3-5 at Shippensburg.

West Chester University baseball

Gov. Mifflin graduate Darius Troche, a junior catcher, has started 22 of the Golden Rams’ 24 games this season. The transfer from Brookdale Community College is batting .275 with two home runs and a double in his first season at West Chester.

In a sweep of Bloomsburg on Sunday (6-1 and 13-1), Troche hit a run-scoring single in the second game.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jeb Kurtz, a Daniel Boone graduate, has made four appearances for the Rams this season with a 9.82 ERA. Last year, Kurtz appeared in 17 games with a 3.20 ERA, earning two wins and a save.

Millersville women’s track and field

Sophomore Seya Trujillo, a Boyertown graduate, placed fifth in the hammer throw at 160-1 at the Bison Classic at Bucknell.

Freshman Chanel Hercules, from Fleetwood, finished 10th in the long jump with the eighth-best jump in program history, 17-9 3/4.

Two Boyertown graduates, Aurora Conrad and Emma Elwell, ran legs on the Marauders’ 4 x 100 meter relay which ran ran 47.97, tied for third fastest in the PSAC this season. Conrad is a graduate student and Elwell is a senior.

Penn College

Jayden Manbeck, a Tulpehocken graduate, won in singles and doubles on Saturday as Penn College won its first men’s tennis match of the season, defeating Clarks Summit University.

For the baseball team, freshman Jaydon Goebel, a Twin Valley graduate, doubled in the second inning against Penn State Altoona last Wednesday, driving in two runs. The Wildcats won 8-6 for their sixth straight win. The win streak was snapped when Penn State Altoona won the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

On Sunday, Boyertown graduate Brandon Shane had a two-run double in a five-run third inning for the Wildcats against Penn State Abington in the first game of a doubleheader.

Kutztown High grad Alex Edwards will be one of seven Penn College archers competing in the USA Archery East Region Outdoor Championship and Adam Wheatcroft Memorial in Harrisonburg, Va., on Saturday and Sunday.
