U.S. Forest Service firefighters will be conducting a prescribed burn today west of Boulder.

According to a press release, the burns will occur in the Forsthye II Prescribed Burn area just west of the Gross Reservoir. The release said smoke may be visible in the area as well as along the Front Range. In a post on X, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office asked the public to only call 911 if they are in imminent danger.

In an email, USFS said burning could continue this week if weather conditions are appropriate and the department will continue to monitor conditions in the next few weeks as well.

Last year, the USFS conducted prescribed burning in the same area and treated 307 acres of land.
