Girls tennis roundup: New London-Spicer sweeps LQPV/D-B; Litchfield wins

Prep girls tennis report for Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, in west central Minnesota. Amyra Gamez wins No. 2 singles in three sets; Litchfield defeats Le Sueur-Henderson

NEW LONDON — Spurred by a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, the New London-Spicer girls tennis team swept Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd 7-0 on Monday.

In that match, the Wildcats’ Amyra Gamez beat Madelyn Matthies, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.

NLS also got a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles as Jordan Proehl and Avery Dierenfeld defeated Kali Bormann and Gertie Sieg.

The Wildcats travel to Litchfield on Thursday. LQPV/D-B has a quick turnaround, hosting Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Tuesday in Madison.

Fourth-ranked (Class A) Litchfield did not drop a set in a home win over Le Sueur-Henderson.

Ilsa Dille won 6--0, 6-0 for the Dragons at No. 3 singles. Another 6-0, 6-0 win came at No. 3 doubles courtesy of Anna Stilwell and Amelia Benson.

Litchfield hosts New London-Spicer on Thursday.

Yellow Medicine East took the non-conference loss to Marshall at Granite Falls.

The closest match was at No. 1 doubles. The Tigers’ Aubrey Schaefer and Naomi Schroeder won a tight super-tiebreaker to defeat the Sting’s Brianna Nelson and Sarana West, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.

“I thought we were going to get one,” said YME head coach Jeff Lalim. “(Brianna and Sarana) played well.”

The Sting head to Melrose on Thursday.
