One dead, another injured Sunday in motorcycle crash near Melrose, Minnesota

Aaron Schlingmann, 43, of Janesville, Minnesota, died after a motorcycle crash on Stearns County Road 13. The crash was reported Sunday afternoon about one and a half miles South of Melrose. Another rider, 45-year-old Erik Buckley of Owatonna, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

MELROSE — A 43-year-old motorcyclist from Janesville died and another motorcyclist was injured in a crash Sunday afternoon near Melrose.

Aaron Schlingmann was transported by Melrose Ambulance to CentraCare — Melrose Hospital where he died, according to a news release from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

Life Link Helicopter had been dispatched to assist in transporting Schlingmann to another hospital, but he was declared deceased a short time after arriving at the hospital in Melrose, according to the release.

Melrose Ambulance transported 45-year-old Erik Buckley of Owatonna to the same hospital a short time later. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The Sheriff's Office said neither was wearing a helmet.

The crash was reported at at 2:18 p.m. Sunday on County Road 13, south of 360th Street in Grove Township. When Stearns County deputies arrived at the scene 1.5 miles south of Melrose, they determined that both motorcycles were traveling south on County Road 13. The investigation showed both motorcycles went off the left side of the road and into a ditch where the road curves to the right, according to the release.

Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Melrose Police Department, Melrose-Ambulance, Life Link Helicopter, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
