As the spring season begins to taper off, track and field athletes will focus on fine-tuning their
techniques, trying to drop times and increase their heights and distances. Wiggins track just put
the rest of Class 2A on notice.

During the Platte Valley Bronco Stampede over the weekend, the Tigers impressed with 23 top-
10 marks through a variety of events and even enjoyed a few golds along the way.

Junior Cameron Schmidt led the individual effort for the boys with a victory in the discus event,
launching the disc 138 feet, 9 inches. Senior Americo Lorenzini followed his lead with fifth place
(114–1). Lorenzini likewise earned fourth in the shot put (43–10), as senior Grant Reed trailed
just behind (eighth, 41–1.75).

Junior Nahia Kelley sped to the front of the line in the 100-meter dash as she beat out the rest
of the field with a time of 12.82 seconds. Senior Payton Malone achieved a similar feat in the
100 hurdles, winning out at 17.86.

Sophomore Brooke Schmidt mastered the competition in the discus to claim victory at 118–4.
No other competitor eclipsed 93 feet. Sophomore Ali Beauprez, for example, took fourth with a
distance of 91–5 and sophomore Terrah Fitzsimmons added 10th place (87–6) to the Tigers’
throwing effort. The three mixed it up for the shot put, led by Beauprez (second, 33–6) and
followed by Fitzsimmons (eighth, 31–4) and Schmidt (ninth, 30–8.5).

The boys 4×800 relay team won out in their race and dominated the competition with a 9:04.13.
Senior Isaac Reed snagged the silver with an 11:26.98 in the 3,200 run. Senior Cade Green
paced his way to fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a 5:00.52, and sophomore Mason Forsha
snuck onto the podium in the same event at 10th place (5:17.71).

The ladies’ 4×800 only competed against Liberty Common but dominated the Eagles anyway
with a 11:19.51, beating them out by 1 minute, 22 seconds. The 4×200 team faced tough
competition, but still managed eighth place with a collective 2:03.33 mark. The 800 sprint
medley relay quartet fared a bit better, claiming fourth (2:04.51).

In the high jump, sophomore Charlieann Barret secured fifth after clearing the 4–7 bar to just
narrowly beat out teammate and junior Kennedy Kerr (sixth), who cleared the same bar, albeit
with more attempts. Senior Taelynn Epple likewise earned fifth in the long jump after flinging
herself 15–4, followed up by sophomore Kallie Green (14–1).
