The state postseason field in boys golf was mapped out in regional tournaments across the state last week. Boys tennis team playoff brackets were announced for the week ahead.

In time for the changing of the seasons, the race for a spot in the school trophy case is officially on.

From the BoCoPreps.com coverage area, five teams qualified for next week’s state golf tournaments.

Boulder, led by Luke Blankinship’s fifth-place finish at the Class 5A Northern Regional, finished second as a team and qualified. Centaurus and Silver Creek send teams in 4A after the Warriors’ Asa Wentworth won 4A Region 3 while the Raptors’ Ben Harding took second. And in 3A, both Holy Family and Peak to Peak made the cut.

In all, 37 golfers from 16 different local schools qualified.

In boys tennis, six area teams made the sport’s inaugural state dual tournament brackets between 5A and 4A. First round is Wednesday.

Niwot, ranked eighth in 4A, will host No. 9 Grand Junction. The others are on the road, with Peak to Peak and Dawson competing in 4A, and Monarch, Fairview and Boulder in 5A.

Quarterfinals follow on Saturday for both classifications. Championships are Oct. 18.

With those qualifiers leading the way, below is a lookahead for the week of Sept. 26.

Holy Family Bobblehead Invitational at Broadlands Golf Course is Tuesday

The invite usually serves as a relaxed tune-up for the state tournaments.

In the past, players have worn swim trunks instead of golf shorts, per the Holy Family student newspaper. Bobbleheads are the prizes.

Among others expected to be there (per the golf website iWanamaker) is junior Rudi Heitz, representing the host team. The Holy Family junior finished 11th at 3A Region 3 last week, leading the Tigers to a second-place finish as a team.

Fairview’s Miles Kuhl is also scheduled to be there after he tied Blankinship for fifth at the 5A Northern Region. His teammate, Sawyer Sales, should also be in attendance after qualifying with a 10th-place region finish.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m.

Opening round of boys tennis team postseason is Wednesday

Niwot is the only local team favored to come out of the first day, at least according to state ranks. Its dual against No. 9 Grand Junction will start at 2 p.m.

Monarch, meanwhile, is the highest-ranked local 5A team. The 9-seed Coyotes won all eight of their duals in the regular season and were rewarded with a first-round trip to No. 8 Grandview. Start is at 3:45 p.m.

Elsewhere in 5A, 10-seed Fairview is at No. 7 Denver East (time TBD), the team the Knights fell 4-3 in a dual on Sept. 6. No. 12 Boulder faces undefeated Regis Jesuit at the Colorado Athletic Club at 3:30 p.m., a little more than a week after it lost to the Raiders 5-2 in a dual.

In 4A, no start times for No. 12 Peak to Peak (at No. 5 Mullen) or No. 14 Dawson (at 3-seed Denver South).

Erie at Broomfield softball is also Wednesday

Something has to give: Erie’s 14-game winning streak. Broomfield’s eight straight victories. Two aces who have been absolutely dealing.

If the No. 1s do go on the mound, the Tigers’ Gracie Sackett will aim to improve to 10-0, coming in with a 0.58 ERA in 60 2/3 innings. Breanna Fiala will look to win her sixth straight decision as she’s allowed three of fewer earned runs in each of the previous five.

Game is set for 4:15 p.m.

Lyons pitcher Ceci Chiaravalle is on path to 200 Ks

Coming into the week, the junior has the second-most strikeouts in the state with 174.

Touting a 2.16 ERA, Chiaravalle has posted double-digit Ks in 10 of her 14 appearances this fall. In an 8-1 win over Jefferson last week, she fanned 19 in 6 2/3 frames.

The Lions (8-7), who for now are securely in the 2A 32-team regional outlook at 16th in the classification’s RPI, are home against Berthoud Tuesday, then are at Platte Valley Thursday.

Boulder-Fairview football game is Friday at Christian Recht Field

The Panthers (1-4) are looking to snap a 13-game losing streak to their crosstown rival while halting a four-game skid this fall.

The Knights (4-1) have won each of the last 10 meetings by at least 18 points.

Game is set for 5 p.m.
