New UND Center Carter Wilkie: “It was an easy decision once they called me.”

WILKIE TRANSFERED INTO NORTH DAKOTA FROM RIT.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR)– The highest scoring player in the transfer portal this offseason for college hockey was RIT center Carter Wilkie. Earlier this month, he announced his commitment to North Dakota.

Wilkie visited UND and Wisconsin before announcing his commitment to NoDak. The Calgary, Alberta native registered back-to-back 40-point seasons for the Tigers and helped lead his team to the NCAA tournament this season. Wilkie has one year of eligibility remaining and spoke to the media Thursday on why he chose UND.

“A goal of mine was to win a championship here [at RIT], but this year we did not,” said Wilkie. “A lot of special players around me, so it was a really special time and I want to play hockey and make it my occupation and play at the next level. I thought that North Dakota has that availability and that option with all the pro level players, draft picks and high talent they have. So, it just checked a lot of boxes for me and it was an easy decision, honestly, once they called.”

New goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter (Arizona State) will speak to the media Friday. Check back for his thoughts.
