CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two upscale restaurants that occupy space at the main entrances of the Charleston Town Center have abruptly closed.
The Chop House and Tidewater Grill served their last meals Saturday.
Both are owned by Mainstreet Ventures Restaurant Group.
A reason for the closures was not announced.
In a statement. Mainstreet said it has offered jobs to management and employees at properties outside the Capital City. The workers will be paid accumulated vacation pay, the company said.
Tidewater Grill, at the mall’s Court Street entrance, has been in Charleston for 39 years and the Chop House has also had a more than two dozen year run across from the entrance of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center on Clendenin Street.
In message to customers, Mainstreet said its decision was difficult and it did so with a heavy heart and gratitude to its customers.
“We are beyond thankful to everyone who has shared an experience with us, whether you’ve been dining with us for years or just now found us, we are grateful for your continued support and loyalty,” the statement said. “You are the direct reason for our success and we are honored to have served you.”
Mainstreet said it would refund gift cards through the end of the year. Holders are urged to email info@msventures.net.
The closures come just days before the City of Charleston and Kanawha County Commission are set to begin a demolition project at the former Macy’s anchor store at Town Center to make way for the planned Capital Sports Center project.
