Wins haven’t come easy for the Fort Morgan girls soccer team this year, but on April 11, the
Mustangs caught a sign of relief.

When the Roosevelt Roughriders came to town, the Mustangs emerged with a 3-1 victory,
thanks in large part to a strong second-half push. The two squads matched each other’s efforts
through a 1-1 draw in the first 40 minutes of play, then the Mustangs shut down the Roosevelt
offense through the second half.

During that time, the Mustangs added two more goals to their totals to send the Roughriders
packing with disappointment. Junior Shaelynn Ramirez, sophomore Miley Hernandez and
freshman Aubrey Alvidrez all put balls in the net as Hernandez and freshman Kiara Jiminez both
added assists.

Senior Edith Antonio Gomez spent 70 minutes of the game in the goal box and rewarded her
team with only one allowed goal. She added 10 saves throughout that time frame, paving the
way for sophomore Anais Zannou to step in for the final two minutes. She recorded two saves
herself.

The Mustangs currently hold a 3-7-1 record, with their two other victories being a 7-0 win over
Fort Lupton in the beginning of April which followed their 5-1 win over Sterling in the middle of
March.

They’ll look to add win number four to their resume on Tuesday night when they head to
Frederick for a 6 p.m. start.

Fort Morgan baseball drops six straight

It’s natural for teams to hit a lull every once in a while in their schedule, but when that lull starts
to extend, it becomes more of a valley.

Fort Morgan baseball has been experiencing such a downturn, one that dates back all the way
to the very beginning of April. Despite a relatively strong start the season, the Mustangs haven’t
been able to earn a win since March 30, instead losing six straight.

They’ll play a triple-header at Northridge on Tuesday in search for a ladder out of that hole.
