Seniors Ruben Mora and Giancarlo Mendo, and junior Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar each posted a pair of top-three finishes for Watsonville High’s boys track and field team at the Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division Championships at North Monterey County High on Friday.

Mora took first place in the 300-meter hurdles (43.84 seconds) and second in the 400 (53.26), Mendo took second in both the 800 (2:08.64) and 1,600 (4:46.44), and Aceves-Aguilar took second in the shot put (39 feet, 10 inches) and third in the high jump (5-8).

Watsonville junior Patrick Miller-Brown took third in the 300 hurdles (44.85), sophomore teammate Lisandro Pantoja took third in the discus (129-9), and senior Joshua Murillo took third in the pole vault (10-0).

Alisal (145 points) took first in the standings and was followed by NMC (99), Watsonville (90), Stevenson (70) and Everett Alvarez (59).

PCAL Santa Lucia Championships: Monte Vista Christian sophomore Patrick Tracey placed first in the 100 (11.36) and 200 (23.08), and took part in a pair of relay wins at the PCAL Santa Lucia Championships at MVC School in Watsonville on Friday.

Tracey teamed with Trent Hendricks, Boston Ashe, and Connor Pallott for first in the 4×100 relay (45.57), and joined Joshua Tepoorten, Hendricks, and Pallott for first in the 4×400 relay (3:41.37).

Tepoorten also took first in the 400 (52.96). MVC sophomore Conor Gilliam took first in the 800 (2:08.95) and third in the 400 (54.57).

Pacific Collegiate senior Andre Tse took first in both the shot put (41-4) and discus (145-8). Pumas freshman Jude Holmlund took first in the pole vault (8-6).

Pajaro Valley junior Izaak Ocampo took first in both the long jump (19-7) and high jump (5-4), and third in the 200 (23.40).

MVC had seven other top-three finishes. Pallott also took second in both the 100 (11.38) and 200 (23.15). Hendricks (54.13) took second in the 400. Junior Justin McCullick took second in the 800 (2:09.59) and third in the 1,600 (4:47.75), and junior Aiden Lopes took second in the 300 hurdles (46.27) and third in the 110 hurdles (18.93).

PCS sophomore Garrett Koontz took second in the long jump (17-5).

Pajaro Valley senior David Hernandez took third in the 800 (2:10.59), and junior teammate Carlos Anaya took second in the pole vault (8-6). Hernandez, Anaya, and Ocampo teamed with Erik Michi for second in the 4×400 relay (3:43.25). Grizzlies junior Aron Bernabe took third in the shot put (39-10.5).

St. Francis’ Joseph Dayrit, Anthony Silva, Markel Parker, and Robert Gomez took second in the 4×100 relay (46.95). Sharks sophomore Coy Jordan took second in the triple jump (35-10.5), Gomez took third in the high jump (5-2), and Dayrit took third in the long jump (17-1.5).

Girls track and field

PCAL Mission Division Championships: Watsonville junior Katelynn Ruiz took first in both the 1,600 (5:27.74) and 3,200 (11:52.36) at the PCAL Mission Division Championships at NMC High in Castroville on Friday.

Junior Jocelyn Guzman took first in the 300 hurdles (50.31) for the Wildcatz, and sophomore teammate Lizbeth Gomez Abrica took third in both the 1,600 (5:37.60) and 3,200 (12:41.33).

Guzman, Gomez Abrica, Aileen Reyes, and Ruiz teamed up for  second in the 4×400 relay (4:36.00).

NMC (132 points) took first in the standings and was followed by Alisal (131), Stevenson (71), Watsonville (64), and Everett Alvarez (63).

PCAL Santa Lucia Championships: MVC juniors Madison Bandy and Kylie Brunelli, and sophomore teammate Ashley Drago each won two individual events at the PCAL Santa Lucia Championships at MVC School in Watsonville on Friday.

Bandy took first in the 100 (13.21) and 200 (27.54), Brunelli took first in the 1,600 (5:38.47) and 3,200 (12:35.15), and Drago took first in both the 400 (1:03.23) and long jump (14-8.25), and second in the 200 (27.87).

MVC’s Corinna Giannelli, Finley Castro, Hannah Woodford, and Bandy took first in the 4×400 relay (4:44.99).

St. Francis sophomore Peyton Orradre took first in the 100 hurdles (17.92) and second in the high jump (4-4), Sharks senior Aaliysah Gomez took first in the triple jump (30-11), and Pajaro Valley sophomore Emily Lopez took first in the 800 (2:40.48).

Pajaro Valley senior Kimberly Aguirre-Orozco took second in the triple jump (28-10), and Grizzlies junior Ellie Moore took second in the pole vault (7-0).

MVC’s Castro took second in the 800 (2:43.57) and 1,600 (5:43.60), and the Mustangs’ Kaitlyn Burbatt, Bandy, Nyree Delfin, and Drago teamed for second in the 4×100 relay (54.52), and Woodford took third in the 800 (2:53.42).

Kirby junior Lucia Nakashima took second in the 100 (13.79) and third in the 200 (28.66).

PCS sophomore Lilly Froeming took second in the 3,200 (13:12.74), and Pumas junior Arie Shae McNeil took third in the 1,600 (5:56.19).

Girls swimming

PCAL Mission Division Championships: PCS (262 points) took first out of nine teams at the PCAL Mission Division Championships at Hartnell College on Friday. MVC (171) took third, Kirby (33) was seventh, and St. Francis (27) took eighth.

PCS’s Netta Wainshal took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:40.58) and second in the 100 breast (1:21.33), Nina Gramkowski took first in the 100 fly (1:10.05) and third in the 50 free (29.17), Finley Dobkin took third in the 500 free (6:18.60), and Olivia Chen took third in the 100 back (1:13.90).

PCS’s 200 medley relay (Chen, Wainshal, Dobkin, and Gramkowski) took first in 2:09.70 and 400 free relay (Gramkowski, Peyton Lashier, Dobkin, and Wainshal) took first in 4:20.90.

MVC’s Mariella Guevara took first in the 200 free (2:06.14) and 500 free (5:39.08), and teammate Serena Barragan took third in the 100 fly (1:17.84). The Mustangs took second in the 200 medley relay (2:15.27) and 200 free relay (2:04.37).

Kirby’s Emily Knowles took fourth in the 500 free (6:19.06).

Boys swimming

PCAL Mission Division Championships: MVC (269 points) took first and PCS (244) took second at the seven-team PCAL Mission Division Championships at Hartnell College on Friday.

MVC’s Peyton Sanchez took first in the 100 fly (57.26) and second in the 100 back (1:03.17), and teammate Tyler Gill took first in the 100 free (54.27) and third in the 50 free (24.49).

The Mustangs’ Rowan Williams took second in both the 200 free (2:01.40) and 500 free (5:35.96), and Jue Huang took second in the 100 breast (1:05.68). Luciano Guerra took third in the 200 free (2:08.31), and Mario Gonzalez Chavez took third in the 100 free (54.88).

MVC took first in the 200 medley relay (1:48.44) and second in the 200 free relay (1:39.08) and 400 free relay (3:36.22).

PCS’s Finn Levy took first in the 200 free (1:57.91) and 500 free (5:15.70), the latter was a new program record. Jack McNulty took first in the 100 back (59.87) and second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.24), JP Lee was first in 50 free (22.76) and second in the 100 fly (57.68), and Eddie Elzy-Loving was second in both the 50 free (24.48) and the 100 free (54.40). PCS (Lee, Levy, Elzy-Loving, and McNulty) also won the 400 free relay with a new program record and CCS-qualifying time of 3:29.62.

High school baseball

Scotts Valley 6, at Santa Cruz 3: Blake LaRiviere had three hits, including a double and three-run home run, and scored twice in the Falcons’ SCCAL win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Scotts Valley finished with 10 hits. Quinn Turowski had a walk, two hits, one RBI, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Giesen Corbin hit an RBI double in the second inning.

On the mount, Giesen pitched 5 1/3 innings and picked up the win. He gave up seven hits, two walks and three runs, and recorded five strikeouts. Kaleb Wing gave up one hit over 1 2/3 innings and earned the save.

On Saturday, Santa Cruz hosts The King’s Academy at 11 a.m., and Scotts Valley plays at Alisal at noon.

St. Francis 4, Salinas 3: Pedro “Jr.” Ibarra hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and pitched three scoreless innings of relief to lead the Sharks to the PCAL Gabilan Division win Friday.

Micah Cervantes had a hit and scored twice for the Sharks, and Mason Borrego had a hit and run scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Evan Dyer started and pitched four innings for St. Francis. Nathan Vasquez pitched two innings of relief and took the loss for the Cowboys.

St. Francis hosts MVC on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

At Carmel 11, MVC 4; 5 inn.: The Mustangs had six hits and three walks in their PCAL Gabilan Division game Friday.

High school softball

MVC 13, at Gonzales 2: Kayla Fullalove-Silveira had two hits, including a triple, three RBI, and scored twice in the Mustangs’ PCAL Mission Division win Friday.

Juliana Lopez had two hits, including a triple, two RBI, and scored twice, and Giselle Rocha and Kate Caballero each had a hit, two RBI, and a run scored. Ava Alvarado had a hit and scored three runs, and Mae Martin had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice.

Martin, the winning pitcher, struck out six batters and didn’t issue a walk.

MVC (11-8, 3-6) plays at Santa Cruz (5-10) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
