Attacks on civilians, whether by Israeli Jews or Palestinians should be deplored. There have been too many examples of atrocities committed by both sides both historically and currently. Moreover, there will be no peace until the root causes of this conflict are addressed. No doubt Israel is a state built upon ethnic cleansing, occupation and apartheid (the latter described extensively by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and many other reputable organizations).

The youth demanding divestment from Israel tied investments at their universities and a permanent ceasefire are right. Americans must end U.S. military aid to Israel immediately and end our complicity in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
