Santa Cruz’s Nat Young tied for 25th place and earned 1,700 points at the World Surf League’s Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro, the season opener on the Challenger Series, at Snapper Rocks in Queensland, Australia, on Monday.

Young was eliminated in Heat 3 of the Round of 32. He produced a two-wave total in the 12.04 during his 30-minute heat in 1- to 4-foot waves.

France’s Charly Quivront (14.07) took first in the heat, and Australia’s Mikey McDonagh (13.87) took second to also advance. France’s Marco Mignot (12.40) took third and was also eliminated. Mignot tied for 17th overall and earned 1,900 points.

Boys tennis

CCS seeding: Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League co-champion Aptos (11-3) will play at Evergreen Valley (8-3) in San Jose on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Central Coast Section Team Tournament.

The winner faces No. 4 seed Bellarmine (16-6) in the second round at Mission College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

First-round matchups were also released for the CCS singles and double tournaments, which takes place May 14-16 at Seascape Sports Club in Aptos.

Aptos senior Koosha Safari, a three-star recruit who won his third SCCAL title last week, faces Los Altos senior Jay Mallampati, a fellow three-star recruit who is committed to Pomona-Pitzer, in the first round May 14.

Harker freshman Tanishk Konduri, who won the USTA Boys’ 14 National Championship in August, is the No. 1 seed. Leigh sophomore Magnus Weng is No. 2, Crystal Springs Uplands senior Anthony Lim is No. 3, and Saratoga sophomore Somei Ogata is No. 4.

Konduri, Weng, and Ogata are five-star recruits, and Lim is a three-star recruit.

In the first round of the doubles tournament on May 15, Aptos’ John McGowan and Jack Eldredge, the SCCAL champions, face No. 2 Anish Lolabatttu and Ewan Cortes of Bellarmine, the West Catholic Athletic League champions.

Monte Vista Christian’s Benjamin Brown and Kyle Kaiser, the Pacific Coast Athletic League champions, face San Mateo’s Dylan Chua and Ronit Jambekar, the Peninsula Athletic League champs.

High school softball

MVC 10, at Santa Cruz 6: Giselle Rocha had three hits, including a double and home run, four RBI, and scored a run in the Mustangs’ nonleague win Monday.

Ava Alvarado doubled and tripled, had two RBI, and scored a run for the Mustangs. Kayla Fullalove-Silveira had a double, two RBI, and scored three runs, and Juliana Lopez had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice.

Mae Martin earned the complete-game win and struck out six batters.

Sophomore shortstop Makayla Norman had a triple and one RBI for the Cardinals. Junior catcher Molly Pisciotta had a hit, one walk, one RBI, scored twice, and sophomore center fielder Leah Serna had a hit and run scored.

Santa Cruz’s Rona Lewis gave up three earned runs over five innings and struck out six batters.
