Grenell’s appointment, staff cuts, are alarming
Re: “Trump names Richard Grenell to oversee intel agencies” (Mercurynews.com, Feb. 19)
All Americans — including Donald Trump’s staunch supporters — should be very concerned with the appointment of Richard Grenell as Acting Director of National Intelligence, coupled with Trump’s recent reduction of the White House National Security Council staff by approximately 30 percent.
Reports say that Grenell has no background in intelligence and little top-level management experience. Further, as a temporary appointee, he does not need to be approved/vetted by the Senate.
In this complex and dangerous world, the United States simply cannot afford to reduce its worldwide intelligence gathering and analysis capabilities with actions that clearly favor loyalty over the nation’s best interests.
All Americans — and particularly Republicans — should express their concern to their elected representatives.
