Steam Search makes finding new games easier than ever before

Whoa, technology.

Valve just released some very handy improvements to the Steam platform. As announced in an official blog post, the new Steam Search system should make finding the right game for you easier than ever before. Developed as part of Steam Labs, these changes have been made to make Steam more powerful.

Going forward, Steam users will have several new tools they can use to find games. Of course, you can still search by game title and tags haven’t been dropped completely. Instead, the tag system will now display a preview of how many results you can expect based on the tags ticked.

That’s not all. The tag system is now more complex and allows for sub-genres to be included or excluded. For example, if you like survival games but not zombies or horror, you can search specifically for just that.  Equally, you could search for RPGs but remove all turn-based games if you were looking for something more action-oriented.

Also, Steam Search allows the user to filter by price. This has been a long-overdue feature on Steam that was previously too simplistic. Whilst before you could only pick between pre-determined price boundaries, Steam Search lets to specify an exact price. If you only want to pay up to $15 for a game, you can choose to filter your search to fit that.

There are some other, smaller quality of life improvements that should keep unwanted games off your search list. For one, you can now choose to hide all games you already own, have on your wishlist, or have chosen to ignore.

Other than that, those who don’t own a virtual reality headset can now filter out all VR-only games. Finally, the old page system has been dumped in favor of infinite scroll. You’ll now find new games by simply scrolling down instead of having to manually select a new page.
