A 37-year-old man was behind bars on Wednesday, May 31, in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Monterey Park.

Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Atlantic Boulevard shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of a woman being tackled and possibly assaulted as she was walking in the area, according to Lt. Bob Hung with the Monterey Park Police Department.

Rudy Barboza, a parolee and resident of El Monte, attempted to leave the area after the alleged assault, but police were able to locate him with community assistance, Hung said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with the intent to commit rape, police said. He remains in custody without bail, according to jail records.

Anyone with additional information about the alleged assault was urged to contact the police department at 626-573-1311.
