If You're A Serious Over-Packer Like Me, Here Are The Béis Travel Products You Need (And Which Ones You Can Skip)

As a travel lover, I was ready to upgrade my luggage. I tested six of the top products from Shay Mitchell's gorgeous travel brand. Some of them I absolutely loved, but others I wouldn't fully recommend.

There are so many great luggage brands out there, but if you're on the same sides of Instagram and TikTok that I am, then you've definitely seen Béis's beautiful bags.

The luggage brand is owned by actor/influencer Shay Mitchell, whom you may know from Pretty Little Liars or Dollface.

As a travel lover, I've been wanting new luggage for a while. The threadbare suitcase I thrifted in college finally bit the dust, so it was time for an upgrade. I wanted something that was going to last quite a lot longer. Last summer, I almost bought an Away bag with a built-in charger, but I'm glad I didn't because built-in chargers aren't allowed on a lot of planes. So, I decided to go with Béis for three main reasons: 1.) it's so pretty and seemed to be good quality from what I saw online, 2.) the roller bags have a built-in weight indicator, and 3.) they're more affordable than other brands I was looking it.

I made two separate orders, but I had a 15% code for each. The first was for signing up for the website, and the second was for making my first in-app purchase.

Here's what I was looking for in new luggage:

— I needed a checked bag that has plenty of room because I'm a serious over-packer. However, I still needed it to be a manageable size for me because I'm pretty short, and it's hard for me to lug around a big suitcase.

— I wanted something that's built to last. I saved up for this luggage in hopes of not having to replace it for several decades.

— I really wanted a built-in weight indicator. I realized this after ending up on the airport floor shoveling books from my suitcase into my backpack last summer.

— I wanted everything to match, just because.

Here's a breakdown of everything I tried from Béis (and how much I paid):

FYI, I bought everything with my own money, so this is a totally honest, unbiased review!

1. The 26" Check-in Roller in Beige — originally $278 (now $308), but $236.30 with the discount

Why I chose this one:

There's also a 21" bag and a 29" bag, but I went with the medium one because it seemed to be the best fit for my roomy/manageable requirement.

I went with beige because it'll be easy to spot among the sea of black suitcases at baggage claim. Béis has some gorgeous, vibrant color options, but, frankly, I wanted something boring.

Since I didn't have any trips planned for a few months, I did a packing test run for the two-week trip I'm planning to take later this summer. Here's everything I wanted to fit vs. everything that actually fit:

clothes laid out and then packed in the suitcase

Pros:

—It's REALLY roomy.

—The cushioned handle makes it really easy and comfortable to carry. As someone who's spent altogether too much time running through airports, I definitely appreciate this feature.

—The weight indicator!!!!

—There are so many pockets and dividers that it's super easy to stay organized.

Cons:

—It scuffs sooo easily. Since I didn't have any trips coming up for a while, I let my mom borrow this suitcase for a quick trip she had. After just that one trip, the outer shell looked pretty bad. There's also damage to the rubber part. I spent two hours scrubbing it with dish soap and water then a magic eraser sponge before it was somewhat back to normal. There are still some marks, though.

—The TSA lock is kind of hard to figure out. I struggled a lot to reset the code, and I still have trouble getting it closed in general.

Final Thoughts:

My mom told me it was "the best suitcase ever!" However, we both agreed that the scuffs were a big downside. At this price point, I expected it to be a little more resilient or at least easier to clean. If I could go back, I'd probably choose the black one instead. I ended up purchasing the luggage cover for an additional $44 after this in hopes of preventing further scuffs and damage in the future.

Overall, though, I really love the inside of the suitcase, which is what truly counts. I was able to fit so much into without even using the expanding part or going over the weight limit. Also, I love having the weight indicator!

2. The Cosmetic Case in Beige — originally $68, but $57.80 with discount

the square bag

Why I chose this one:

I lost my other travel makeup case while moving, so I decided to replace it with a roomier one. When packing my makeup, I like to give myself ~options.~  I also wanted one that would be easy to clean.

Here's everything I wanted to fit vs. everything that actually fit:

inside of the bag packed with makeup

Pros:

—It's so much bigger than it looked online!

—It comes with a large mirror, which will be helpful when trying to get ready with other people.

—It also has a separate part for brushes.

Cons:

—It has a lot of pockets, but they're all pretty small. So, I ended up dumping most of my makeup into the big part.

—The pocket where a pallet would fit is pretty tight. You can only fit one.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I think this is a good makeup bag. I do wish there were more pockets, kind of like the brush pocket, for eyeliners and other little things that roll around. Alternatively, removable dividers, like the ones I use in my makeup drawer, would be a good addition.

3. The Backpack in Beige — originally $78 (now $88), but $66.30 with discount

biege backpack

Why I chose this one:

Instead of a roller carry-on bag, I wanted a backpack. I prefer that because it's easier to carry, especially when you already have a checked roller bag. I also like having a backpack to use as a day bag on trips.

Here's everything I wanted to fit vs everything that actually fit:

books, laptop, cosmetic case and hat and then the packed backup

Pros:

—There's SO MUCH room! Two giant pockets + front pockets and side pockets.

—It's also comfortable to wear.

Cons:

—I didn't discover this backpack sooner in life.

Final Thoughts: This backpack really is THE backpack. It has tons of room, looks cute, and keeps you super organized. While unpacking it to put everything away, I discovered an additional large pocket that added even more room. For trips where I only want a carry-on, I'll definitely be reaching for this backpack.

4. The Dopp Kit in Beige — originally $48, but $40.80 with discount

Why I chose this one:

TBH, I was swayed by the branding for this one. Did I need an almost $50 toiletry bag? No. But did I want an almost $50 toiletry bag to complete the set? Yes.

Here's everything I wanted to fit vs everything that actually fit:

toiletries laid out
the packed bag with a handful of things that didn't fit

Pros:

—It has a waterproof lining, which is great for me, who always winds up spilling something in her bag. Once, I accidentally spilled an entire bottle of conditioner in my suitcase, so this feature will definitely come in handy.

—It has a separate toothbrush compartment! Love that.

Cons:

—Like I already said, it's an almost $50 toiletry bag. The other bags already have waterproof sections I could've used.

—It didn't fit everything I wanted it to, and that's with using travel-sized products in place of my regular shampoo and conditioner bottles. I also forgot a hairbrush, but it wouldn't have fit anyway.

Final Thoughts:

I also let my mom borrow this one as a toiletry bag, and she told me that she loved it because it helped her stay organized. I like it, too, but I wish it was wider to fit regular-sized shampoo and conditioner bottles.

5. The Passport & Luggage Tag Set in Atlas Pink — originally $44, but $37.40 with discount

Why I chose this one:

The passport holder I've been using for the past few years is pretty damaged, and my old luggage tag is, like, burned. I also wanted a combo passport holder/wallet because one of my biggest travel pet peeves is having to juggle my regular wallet and my passport holder.

Here's what the wallet looks like on the inside:

passport inside the wallet

Pros:

—I love how organized the passport wallet it. No more juggling!

—The bag it came in doubles as a toiletry bag.

—The pen is such a nice addition. That's one thing I always forget to pack but end up needing.

Cons:

—The luggage tag is already damaged after one trip. At this price point, I expected it to hold up better than my old one from Marshall's, but it already has similar damage.

—I really wanted this in beige, but it's been out of stock for months. I went ahead and ordered the pink while I had my second 15% off code because I didn't want the other bags in my order to go out of stock.

—Getting my passport into its slot was challenging. Maybe it'll get easier over time, but I'm just hoping I can figure it out before the next time I have to take out my passport to scan at the airport.

Final Thoughts: Overall, I love the wallet, but I'm not 100% sold on the luggage tag. I wish they were sold separately. However, they're cute and functioning, so that's a win.

Rating: 3/5

And finally:

6. The Weekender in Beige — originally $108, but $91.80 with discount

large weekender bag

Why I chose this one:

I thought this would make a great "personal item" on the plane, thus completing my set. Additionally, it seemed like a good bag for weekend trips or other times when I don't need a big checked bag.

Here's everything I wanted to fit vs everything that actually fit:

everything laid out
everything packed in the bag with lots of room

Pros:

—There's so much more room than I expected! I was able to fit everything I wanted + everything I couldn't fit in the Dopp Kit. I still had a TON of room left over.

—The wired opening makes it so much easier to get stuff in and out of the bag or find what you're looking for.

—There's a separate laptop sleeve, which also works as a book holder.

—It fits over the handles of the roller bag, making it easier to carry.

Cons:

— None, IMO!

Final Thoughts: For me, this is on the same level as the backpack, if not higher! It has so much room while still being compact. It's perfect for a weekend trip (hence the name, lol) or as a work bag.

Rating: 5/5

Final Ranking:

1. The Backpack

2. The Weekender

3. The 26" Check-in Roller

4. The Passport & Luggage Tag Set

5. The Cosmetic Case

6. The Dopp Kit

Final Thoughts: I could see the backpack and the weekender being great for just about anyone, whether you travel a lot or not. The check-in roller is also good, but you do need to purchase the cover separately to protect it from getting so many scuffs. The cosmetic case and dopp kit are more "nice to have" than "travel essential."

Overall, I'm fairly impressed with the Béis luggage I tried. They hold way more stuff than I expected them to while still being easy to carry. I'm excited to travel with them later this year and for many more years to come!
