2019's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is getting a sequel. The film, which teamed up Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's characters (both formerly antagonists within the main series) for their own adventure, ends with set-up for a sequel that has now been confirmed.

This news comes via a fan Q&A on Johnson's Instagram, as picked up on by GameSpot sister site Comicbook.com. According to The Rock, no director is attached yet, and it's unclear when the film will shoot, but the next film is currently being developed. "(We) just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we're going to go," the star said.

Now Playing: Hobbs & Shaw - Director David Leitch On Fitting A Spin-Off Into The Fast & Furious Franchise

The release of a Hobbs & Shaw sequel wasn't certain--the film did well at the box office, but it opened below most other films in the franchise, and was ultimately a big but not enormous hit, making $759 million worldwide.

In GameSpot's 7/10 review of the first Hobbs & Shaw, Chris E. Hayner praised the movie despite it being extremely dumb. "It's funny with massive-scale action, the likes of which you rarely see outside of this franchise. It's loaded with car chases, explosions, and fight scenes in which every character should repeatedly die," Hayner said. "It's just unfortunate that the pieces of the film that aren't soaked in action don't add up."

The next proper Fast & Furious title, F9, was due to be released on May 22, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak it's been delayed to April 2, 2021. We'll have to wait a while to figure out what the deal is with Han's return--and we might need to wait for Hobbs & Shaw 2 to see proper justice served.
