Nick Sirianni hired as Eagles head coach, leaving Texans alone on carousel

There’s only one team left on the NFL’s coaching carousel.

The Eagles are hiring Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as their next head coach, according to multiple reports. The Eagles had a wide-open search after their surprising split with Doug Pederson after a disappointing 4-11-1 season.

Sirianni, 39, has been with the Colts since 2018, working under Frank Reich, who came to Indianapolis after helping to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl as their offensive coordinator.

Sirriani had previously been on the Chiefs and Chargers staff through the years.

The Eagles also considered Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley, Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo, Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported earlier in the week that Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was the Eagles’ top choice, but turned down the opportunity.

The Texans are now the only team without a head coach, only adding to the spotlight that has been put on the franchise in the wake of Deshaun Watson’s trade push and apparently dysfunction.
