A Montgomery County Ride-On public bus crashed into a house in Silver Spring, Maryland, causing no injuries but damaging the home.
The crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the bus left Fairland Road and veered into the house, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said in a post on X.
The bus also struck a parked car, the Montgomery County Police Department told WDVM-TV.
Mr. Piringer said the driver was uninjured and that there were no passengers on board at the time of the crash. People were inside the house, authorities said, but none of them were injured in the crash.
The next-door neighbor said the bus nearly struck his house instead. After hearing a rumbling sound, Mike Gingell told WJLA-TV that all he saw was “a set of headlights coming straight for me. There was no time to move or anything.”
Cars often speed on Fairland Road and get caught up in the rotary, Mr. Gingell said.
Police have not determined the exact cause of the crash, but indicated road conditions may have been a factor.
“The bus driver lost control of the bus for reasons that are still unknown. The surface of the street was wet, which could have been a contributing factor,” an MCPD spokesperson told WJLA-TV.
No criminal charges were filed against the driver, police told WDVM-TV.
