Why was Cyberpunk 2077 delayed by CD Projekt Red?

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for a long time, and this delay has players wondering why they'll have to wait a bit longer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is probably the most highly anticipated game coming in 2020, and fans have already been waiting seven years since a sneaky teaser trailer made its way onto YouTube. Seven years of development is a pretty good chunk of time, which leaves some fans wondering why CD Projekt Red delayed Cyberpunk 2077 an additional five months, from April 2020 to September 17, 2020.

Why was Cyberpunk 2077 delayed?

Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed to give CD Projekt Red more time to polish the game, fix bugs, and do some playtesting on their end. In a tweet sent out from the official account, Marcin Iwinski and Adam Badowski, the co-founder and head of studio respectively, said the game was done and playable. However, due to the size and scope of Night City, more time was needed to make sure the game was perfect.

Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed

Some folks on the internet have responded negatively to this, as you could have guessed, but the truth is a delayed game is better than a broken game. We’ve all waited years for Cyberpunk 2077 to arrive, and if a few more months will improve the experience, and hopefully relieve some developer crunch, than we’ll all just have to go outside this summer or, you know, play something else. Cyberpunk 2077 will be here soon enough, and it’s logical to expect it will be better in September than it would have been in April, so that’s a win.

No mention of the crunch time the developers are forced into?

Your release guide (very helpful) still has the Keanu image from Cyberpunk in the April banner

I wonder if it will negatively impact initial sales? Along with the other games delayed later in the year. Releasing right before all the new consoles which I imagine will be hard to find going in to the holidays as usual. Will people just wait?

Maybe the console version will be cross generational? Buy for PS4 and get a upgrade to ps5 version when you get ps5.

Doubt it. This is the release in 2020.

I’m playing on PC but if I only had a console I’d wait until I was able to find a new console to experience it for the first time as good as it can look.

IIRC, its pre-orders surpassed Witcher 3's.

I doubt it. Most people will be chomping at the bit to play on whatever system they already have. And given the near certainty that massive amounts of dev dollars have gone into PS4 abd XB1 viability, they are not going to walk away from those as platforms, regardless of release date.

I love that quote but in the day of No Man's Sky and Diablo III it's not exactly true anymore.

The AH was not really a problem. No one had to use it if they didn't want to. I will admit I was one of the few who enjoyed making a good chunk of change off of the RM AH.

I spent 60 hours playing D3 before I received my first legendary drop and it was a trash ring. I blamed the AH for the ridiculously low drop rates and I was happy to seem them get rid of it. In fact, I was so unlucky with loot drops that all my high level equipment had to be purchased from the AH at the time. It made playing very unsatisfying which is the opposite of having fun.

The AH had nothing to do with drop rates. The inherent problem with the game was the difficulty spike in nightmare and the equipment stats in general. They just did a poor job of balancing the game tbh.

Yeah they really fucked it up. They also really fucked up the roll-out of the RM AH if you remember, constantly taking it down for maintenance. Also was quite a while before they even had it working, was it like 3 months post-release?

D3 wasn’t rushed, at all. Took for fucking ever to come out, and it came out wrong.
