Robert Downey Jrs reflects upon major award show wins

Robert Downey Jr. reflected on his life after clinching his first ever Oscar this year on March 11, for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight for the premiere of his latest espionage series The Sympathizer, the father of three attended the event with his wife and producer Susan Downey who spilled the beans on life after Oscar win.

Upon inquiring if it has changed, she replied, “Not really”, before explaining, “You win an Oscar, and the next morning, the kids are still giving him grief. Like, they don't care”.

“It's a great humility", she added.

The Academy Award winner also revealed his ‘antidote’ to staying humble and elaborated, “I'll say this, it was a great season. And the best antidote to staying out of ego and all that is being involved in a project like this, like Sympathizer, so I'm fortunate."

The Iron Man actor also shared his humble opinion on scoring an Emmy, in the same year as his Oscars and steered the spotlight to his co-stars.

He shared, “I think Kieu Chinh and Sandra Oh are the ones to keep an eye on, they're both fantastic in this.”

“The whole cast is exceptional. In fact, I played multiple characters just so I wouldn't get lost in the shuffle of all this Vietnamese talent”, Downey added.

It is also notable to mention that the mini-series The Sympathizer will be available for streaming on April 14, 2024, promising an exciting journey of a North Vietnamese spy who is embedded in L.A.’s refugee community during the end of Vietnamese war.
