SAN DIEGO — The Astros’ alleged cheating scandal isn’t among the topics Carlos Beltran was willing to address Tuesday.
Beltran, whose name has surfaced in conjunction with accusations the Astros used electronic surveillance to steal signs in 2017 when he was a member of the team which won the World Series, declined comment at the winter meetings when asked his level of concern he might be suspended to begin his first season managing the Mets.
“Honestly, on Houston’s situation, I don’t have any comment for the respect of the process that has been happening,” Beltran said. “So I’m here to talk Mets baseball.”
Asked if he expected to manage the Mets on Opening Day, Beltran said: “I’m looking forward to managing this ballclub.”
Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who was Houston’s bench coach in 2017, has also declined comment on accusations he was involved.
Jeurys Familia, looking to rebound from a dreadful 2019 season, has lost 20 pounds this offseason, according to Beltran.
