‘Dead silence’ leads J.J. Watt into mid-game blimp debate

J.J. Watt and the Houston Texans weren’t ready for the “dead silence” at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field on Sunday for their game against the Steelers.

In a clip shared Tuesday by NFL Films, the Texans defensive end is seen conversing on the sideline with teammate Brandon Dunn, where they get into the intricacies of blimp travel.

“Just dead silence. You can hear the blimp. That’s how quiet it is,” Watt said.

Dunn, a nose tackle, responded: “It sounds like somebody’s flying over.”

While Watt concurred, noting the blimp is flying over the stadium, Dunn suggested an alternative description.

“Hovering, if you want to keep it technical. He’s just chilling up there,” he said.

As the pair continued to engage in a friendly debate, they also consulted a member of the staff to address the terminology behind “hovering.”

“So, you’re telling me that thing in the air is not flying,” Watt said, to which a Texans staffer said, “It’s hovering.”

Finally ending the back-and-forth, Watt asked the million-dollar question and received the answer he was looking for.

“Is hovering a form of flying,” Watt asked, garnering a response of, “Yes.”

Although Watt may have won 2020’s great blimp debate, the Texans still flew home 0-3 after a 28-21 loss to the Steelers.
