‘Hocus Pocus’ stars to reunite for a virtual event

The Sanderson sisters are coming to bewitch nostalgic film fans for a Halloween reunion of the “Hocus Pocus” cast.

The stars of the 1993 children’s Halloween flick — Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — have confirmed their appearance at a live, virtual fund-raiser for the New York Restoration Project (NYRP). Founded by Midler in 1995, its mission is to create and transform outdoor spaces in NYC.

For the first time this year, the historically hot-ticket affair is inviting the general public to join in what they’re calling the “hottest pandemic-safe Halloween event of the year.”

For $10, fans can snag a ticket to the event, “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover,” Friday, Oct. 30 on NYRP.org.

The Disney classic was a flop at its premiere, possibly owing to the fact that it was released in July instead of enjoying a more timely debut in the fall — a move that was said to preserve ticket sales for 1993’s biggest box office Halloween movie, Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Despite its dismal earnings upon release, “Hocus Pocus” has since risen to cult fame, especially among millennials who yearn to see Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker) and Mary Sanderson (Najimy) return to modern day Salem, as they did in the original.

For her part, Midler, 74, has publicly pleaded for producers to conjure a sequel.

“Oh my goodness me. Oh, I hope they get to me before I’m a corpse,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2019. “We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred] is of course one of my favorite characters.”
