Walking Dead Animated Series Teased By Producer

Scott Gimple hints at what fans can expect from future Walking Dead shows.

The main Walking Dead series might be coming to end after the next season, but there's still lots more to come from AMC's ever-expanding zombie franchise. One show is an anthology series titled Tales of the Walking Dead, and now franchise producer Scott Gimple has given a few hints about what we can expect from it.

An interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gimple revealed that Tales of the Walking Dead might not be an all live-action show. "I will say that one thing I'm looking at hard is animation," he said. "[Walking Dead creator] Robert Kirkman has a lot of talent around that, so that's one-stop shopping for me. [World Beyond co-creator] Matt Negrete and I actually come from animation. We worked initially together in animation back in the day. And then we also went to college together."

Gimple goes onto state that since Kirkman is making an animated series of his comic book Invincible at Amazon, this could even lead to something similar for The Walking Dead. "Invincible is going to be a really interesting thing to see," he said. "Hour long animation? And the comic is fun, but it's not a comedy and it gets super dark and dramatic, regularly. So I can't wait for that. And Kirkman might lead the way on that too. It may lead us right back to a Walking Dead animated series."

The Walking Dead will finish with Season 11. The final season will consist of 24 episodes, which will begin in late 2021, and run through to late 2022. In addition, there's still another seven episodes of Season 10 remaining. Production on this season was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic back in March, so we'll get the episode originally intended to be the finale later this month, and another six in early 2021.

Another upcoming show is a spin-off focusing on the characters Daryl and Carol, which will see Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride reprise their roles from the main series. However, that won't be released until 2023. In the meantime, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Fear of the Walking Dead Season 6 are both now airing on AMC.
